While many of the uber-labels put on a runway spectacular (Christian Dior, Chanel), Givenchy decided to show off his collection in a much more simplistic manner and did not have an actual runway show. While the manner in which Riccardo Tisci decided to show his new collection may not have been flashy or over-the-top, this was certainly not reflected in his stunning Fall 2010 Couture collection.

Leave it to John Galliano to deliver a couture show. Galliano’s Fall 2010 Couture collection for Christian Dior was an explosion of color, drama, ruffles, feathers, organza, and the main inspiration: flowers. While the combination of basically every single material and design element may seem like overkill, the Christian Dior Fall 2010 Couture collection was nothing short of a spectacular.

Couture collections are the best representations of how fashion is a form of art, expression, and creativity. While couture is always fun to look at, the couture collections are usually defined by their opulence and extravagance, and are usually meant to be in a museum rather than on an actual person. However, Karl Lagerfeld’s fall 2010 couture collection for Chanel is anything but unwearable; the designs are sophisticated, chic, impeccably designed and belong on real bodies (hopefully mine!).

Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen’s three year old ultra hip design label, The Row, made its runway debut last fall with a minimalistic collection that had heads turning. This resort season, the girls brought another understated collection into view.

Hooray for contemporary and the season of unbelievable separates! Cynthia Rowley’s Resort Collection is chock full of great pieces that can be mixed and matched to create bohemian ensembles. True to her style, Rowley created cool chiffon dresses, maxi skirts and lounge pants in a variety of floral and paisley prints. Having just designed for Roxy, one can see a bit of a sufer-esque vibe to the collection. The stand outs were most definitely the socks with platforms and chunky costume jewelry which completed each and every look.

Cynthia Rowley exhibited her collection via Winnebago in midtown Manhattan to press and onlookers captured by the themes of dark denim, metallic’s, and prints.
