Hello! I am back! The past few weeks have been ridiculously crazy for me, but I have to say that I have good news I want to share with you all. My 18-year-old daughter, Alexia, has been accepted to Parsons School of Design in NYC. Although my heart is torn just thinking that my baby is leaving home, I am proud and so excited for her!

The Mulleavy sisters won the coveted CFDA Designer of the Year award for their highly lauded brand Rodarte (and just a year after they won for best Emerging Womenswear designers) in 2009. Naturally, the fashion world awaited with high anticipation for their collection following their big wins. For Fall 2010, it seems as though Rodarte is pushing itself in a new direction, while still maintaining the “Rodarte” aesthetic which made it such a popular and acclaimed brand in the first place. For Spring 2010, Nicholas Kirkwood has created these extraordinary shoes for Rodarte. Giving off a sort of futuristic style, these shoes are somewhat vicious and fierce with a mysterious feel. They represent the armor of a new kind of woman—a woman who has become an urban warrior trying to make her way in the jungle our world has become.

I adore collaborations, when two designers come together and marry their creative minds to come up with truly unique pieces. Rodarte is definitely an LA duo to watch, their collections are truly stunning and the sisters have really created a whirlwind in the fashion industry. Paris: I am in awe right now.  When it comes to shoes (obviously) it takes a lot to wow me.  I see the same things over and over in different colors or fabrics and frankly it gets boring.  These are insane; the belt detail is so eye-catching: random sizes and spacing of the buckles and then to finish it off, brown spikes at the ankle!!! I think I’m in love… (ps the loose fishnets just make this shoe pop. There’s something dirty and funky about the whole thing… I’m into it.

 Another take on the same shoe.  I prefer the brown, but the black and white is daring a ballsy frankly. Bravo.
