What's Hot (or not) in Aspen, CO?

On my recent trip to Aspen visiting 'The Rents' I couldn't help but make my rounds in the ultra luxe shops. Yes, they have the same stores as any other major city (Gucci, Fendi, Dior, Burberry, Louis Vuitton to name a few) but what I find year after year is that the stores are as over the top as the crazy tourists that shop in them.

A few of the stores were kind enough to let me take a few shots, so here's what I found.

Prada Vernice Velluto $750.00- Saks

Yes, we've seen this Prada style before, but what's crazy is no one in aspen would actually sport these. They are strictly geared towards the hordes of turistas passing through town during ski season.  Aspen style is elegant and laid back (think luxurious cowboy.) Obviously, I love these shoes. They are a work of art... but they have a time and a place. And it's not Winter on the cobblestone streets of Aspen, Colorado.

Fendi Spring 2008

Fendi 1.jpgMoral of the story here? Although the shops in Aspen are over the top, if you are actually planning a trip to Aspen, pack like me: cowboy boots, fur boots, snowboard boots :-) Believe me, laid back chic get's you a lot further and attracts much fewer gawking faces.
