Joie Party NY Fashion Week 2008

With NY Fashion Week in full swing, Monday night was jam packed with luxe parties. Options abound, I chose to attend the Joie party, which was held at the prestigious and trendy Rose Bar at the Gramercy Park Hotel. Private party that it was, regulars were turned down left and right by the uber strict velvet rope doormen.

One sly patron pleaded with the gatekeeper, complaining that her "hair was curly" and needed to get in STAT before the rain got to her fresh blow out. It worked! About thirty others were not so lucky. You get the picture. Once inside, I knew immediately this soirée was a force to be reckoned with.

Let me start by saying this: the women in New York are among the most beautiful in the world. Coupling that fact with the shoe selection, it's safe to say the Parisian belles have some tough competition. Bisous bebe!

As for the shoes?  Naturally, you had your standard stock of Christian Louboutin's traipsing around the joint (not that I'm complaining), but what was to follow brought sunshine into an evening that was sopping wet.

Right: YSL creme and black patent leather platform slingback with gold metal inlay at sole.

See, girls in New York will wear any kind of shoe, any night of the year, any season of the year, any temperature of the year, come hell or high water.  Nothing stops us!  Luckily, I had my camera to capture images of some of my favorites.  Two designers stood out from the masses.

First and foremost, Bruno Frisoni shoes made a major appearance at this party.  Wow, do I love every pair I spotted.  Such a delight and severe departure from the typical red-bottomed shoes we've been seeing on every celeb you can name.  Second, YSL.  I'm loving the lines and the metallic inlay at the sole.  They're chunky and fun, yet not loud, and strangely dainty.  Lastly, super "IT girl" model Anouke was there holding court with her adorable floral micro-mini vintage dress and outstanding Alaia gladiator boots. Anouke told me she often gets told by top designers that those boots are a masterpiece.  I agree wholeheartedly!

WOW looks like you enjoyed a fabulous soiree in deed, so apart from the beautiful collection of shoes and well beautiful people, was it actually fun?

It was a beautiful party, actually due to a recent spinal surgery I couldn't attend, but Galit reported for us, and said it was the best party in N.Y.
I can't believe I missed it, oh well next year.

YES! Totally fun. The interesting thing is that often times, fashion parties in NY are ridiculously pretentious. Basically, beautiful people drinking hard cocktails sizing up other beautiful people. The fun usually doesn't begin until several of those hard cocktails are consumed. In the case of the Joie party? a. It started late in the evening, so people were ready to blow off some steam from their stressful catwalk-filled day and get loose! b. Everyone I spoke to was extremely friendly, and c. The Rose Bar, as I mentioned above, is intimate in both size and atmosphere. The guest list was very exclusive so there was no room for boring, unfabulous people. ;)

Oh dear Im sorry to hear about that surgery :(. I hope it wasn't caused by your love of the high high heel? Even more I hope it doesn't mean you have to stop wearing them. This is a big problem with these shoe's we all may love them but it can lead to all kinds of problems if worn excessively. You'd think that there would be more research into high heels that aren't going to cause medical problems in a million dollar industry.

No no that's was not about high heels at all, it's just part genetic part aging!!!! yes I know it sucks, but I've lost some of cartilage in between two vertebraes, which was causing excruciating migraines.
I still have the migraines but hopefully it will go away soon.
Thank you for the virtual shoes and for your wonderful support, it means a lot to me and to my team.

That sucks, well I have a good feeling the migraines will go away soon and in the mean time you can always flick through your extensive shoe collection, I bet you have a load that you completely forgot you have, like finding treasure or something, taking your mind right off the headache. Actually I really would like to email you my designs but I don't have your email address, you have mine so if you could send an email to me then I can send you back a few.

Oh well it can only get better, it's just a matter of time. I visited your blog and I find it very chic and elegant , I love it.
You are so sweet to celebrate your B-day and you make us feel very special , thank you so much for your kindness.

As I said in my reply on the blog, you've become not only an institution for fashion bloggers but an inspiration and thats worth celebrating in my book. also I still don't have a contact email to send over my sketches, I would literally love to hear a real shoe-lovers opinions as the only people who have seen them were my sister who sees shoe's as nothing more then practicalities (despite my best efforts) and a Manolo Blahnik saleswoman in Hong Kong and then she was only able to see a few (as I had only just started sketching). Thanks so much.
