Kelly green shoes... oh my!  I have to say I don't own any green shoes, but I'd like to.  Something about the shiny patent leather makes them look like emeralds, and what girl doesn't like precious stones?  I'd pair these with dresses for sure, but keep it simple. (PS I love the semi-peep front! Very Louboutin.)

I don't know if it's just me, but these shoes do not look right. I like them, and they are hot, but it's just the heel. I wonder how anyone will be able to stand, let alone walk in these shoes.

Don't get me wrong. I love the color, the ruched suede, and the overall look. I am just a little concerned about ankle safety here.

Another take on the gladiator, in a different color scheme.  I absolutely love this shoe!  The textures, colors, ankle wrap detail... I'm excited for Spring!  I'd love to see these shoes with a Missoni dress, actually.

We all know MIssoni makes beautiful garments, but look at their shoes! Amazing.  This particular peep toe pump seems to be the new take on the gladiator (the upper has that distinctive "plate" detail.) Although ankle straps tend to cut me off at the ankle, I think these would be perfect for me because I'm fair and they would blend in with my skin tone. Pair these with dresses for sure.

Now that we have discussed the importance of a basic black pump and a ballet flat, it’s time to discuss another important facet of building a shoe wardrobe: the evening shoe. I really think it's a good idea to have at least one or two timeless evening shoe options. First of all, if you have an event come up, it's nice to already own a shoe that works with most everything, so you can just focus on buying a dress. In addition, a beautiful evening shoe can transform a plain little black dress into a much dressier outfit. So if you're in a jam with a last-minute event, you can toss on that LBD and gorgeous pair of satin sandals, and you're all set.

In my mind, nothing can ruin a beautiful evening look, like putting on a pair of inappropriate shoes with an evening gown. And when I say inappropriate, I’m thinking of pairing something like a delicate chiffon gown with a a pair of office-appropriate black pumps or a chunky platform sandal. Perfectly wearable in other scenarios, but they just do not work with a gown.

Another issue with evening sandals is comfort. I have ended so many evenings with aching, blistered feet. Granted any 5-inch shoe is going to be somewhat uncomfortable if you’re standing in them all night, but make sure any shoes you pick are somewhat tolerable. For example, if you mainly wear flats, don’t pick evening shoes with 4- to 5-inch heels. A heel of 2 or 3 inches is just fine.

It is impossible to pick a shoe that is going to work with any evening dress you might one day wear, but stick to something as neutral as possible like black, silver or gold. I adore evening shoes in vibrant reds or turquoise, but if you’re just building your shoe wardrobe and want to maximize your shoe investment, go for something neutral that you can get maximum wear out of. Later on you can add in some more unique choices. It is also nice to have a sandal and pump to choose from.

Here are some of my favorite choices availabe online now. I’ve also included some flats for those times when you’re say pregnant or have a sprained ankle (been there, done that).

Another gem from the runway.  I have to say, as much as I'm seeing this trend, it's not getting overplayed; it's inventive and exciting each time!  Which is good because the peep toe bootie is invading every store near you.  I love the lacy detail and front zip on this particular pair.

As you may have already noticed, (if you didn't you might want to consider moving out of your cave) open toe booties are in for Fall and apparently Spring as well.  Narcisco Rodrigiguez showed these at fashion week and I am really digging them.  They are dainty yet masculine and the upper detail adds just the right amount of individuality  I hope they produce these and if they do, wear them with a flirty 50's style mini or 'old faithful.'

I’ve been stalking the web ever since I saw these shoes available on the Steve Madden website. Unfortunately I can’t find them in my size! So frustrating! I may have to try to squeeze in a size 10. Anyway, I adore these pumps! They are uber sexy, and the purple snakeskin leather is divine! You are going to look like a million books in these babies.

I also think this is a good shoe to spend less on. Purple, and especially purple snakeskin, may not be in next season (although you could probably get away with it since this shoe is such a classic shape) so you won’t have spent a fortune. Personally I don't buy all designer shoes, so I do supplement my wardrobe by buying shoes in all price ranges.

You can wear these pumps with most everything. They’ll look good with jeans and pants, dresses or skirts and tights or bare legs. If you’re not into the purple trend, they’re also available in black.

Straight out of Cinderella's post-cinder armoire, these shoes have princess written all over them. They're youthful, ultra femme and the cobalt/teal combo comes straight out of that movie, I swear! IMDb.  I would do these with a floral dress or even a funky plaid (I like to funk things up a bit.)

Aaaah, Gwen! These hit the spot. I love the color and the scallop detail ... not to mention the fact that the open-toe bootie is the 'it' shoe of the season. I might have to run out and get these for Fashion Week... so many shoes, so little time...I'd wear them with a black mini fo sho.
