I’m still obsessed with purple—I can’t help it. It’s just such a great color! So, of course, I fell in love with these Stuart Weitzman slingbacks. This is a really fun shoe. You can wear them with a more serious outfit, but I’d have fun with them and wear them with tights and a skirt or leggings. Jeans are an option as well, of course.

And because of the shape, you can wear them through next spring and summer. With this scary economy, shoes that you can wear more than one season, are a good thing! And Stuart Weitzman’s shoes are very reasonable for designer shoes, so that’s a plus too! They are also available in a variety of other colors.

Now that we have discussed the importance of a basic black pump and a ballet flat, it’s time to discuss another important facet of building a shoe wardrobe: the evening shoe. I really think it's a good idea to have at least one or two timeless evening shoe options. First of all, if you have an event come up, it's nice to already own a shoe that works with most everything, so you can just focus on buying a dress. In addition, a beautiful evening shoe can transform a plain little black dress into a much dressier outfit. So if you're in a jam with a last-minute event, you can toss on that LBD and gorgeous pair of satin sandals, and you're all set.

In my mind, nothing can ruin a beautiful evening look, like putting on a pair of inappropriate shoes with an evening gown. And when I say inappropriate, I’m thinking of pairing something like a delicate chiffon gown with a a pair of office-appropriate black pumps or a chunky platform sandal. Perfectly wearable in other scenarios, but they just do not work with a gown.

Another issue with evening sandals is comfort. I have ended so many evenings with aching, blistered feet. Granted any 5-inch shoe is going to be somewhat uncomfortable if you’re standing in them all night, but make sure any shoes you pick are somewhat tolerable. For example, if you mainly wear flats, don’t pick evening shoes with 4- to 5-inch heels. A heel of 2 or 3 inches is just fine.

It is impossible to pick a shoe that is going to work with any evening dress you might one day wear, but stick to something as neutral as possible like black, silver or gold. I adore evening shoes in vibrant reds or turquoise, but if you’re just building your shoe wardrobe and want to maximize your shoe investment, go for something neutral that you can get maximum wear out of. Later on you can add in some more unique choices. It is also nice to have a sandal and pump to choose from.

Here are some of my favorite choices availabe online now. I’ve also included some flats for those times when you’re say pregnant or have a sprained ankle (been there, done that).

Straight out of Cinderella's post-cinder armoire, these shoes have princess written all over them. They're youthful, ultra femme and the cobalt/teal combo comes straight out of that movie, I swear! IMDb.  I would do these with a floral dress or even a funky plaid (I like to funk things up a bit.)

I loved these shoes on the runway and was anxiously waiting to see them hit the stores, and here they are! I like the suede material (pink of course!), and the square toe and the white inset in the heel. Tres Paris, tres chic, tres Dior!!

I reviewed a gorgeous Nicholas Kirkwood pump on Tuesday, and I talked about the artistry of his designs. This slingback uses the same satin and snakeskin, but it is definitely more artistic. I can appreciate that the form of this shoe is beautiful, but personally I wouldn’t wear them. I can, however, see a very confident women who takes fashion risks rocking tbem.

I’ve featured several L.A.M.B. shoes lately, but I just can’t resist! They are all so hot and unique! At first glance, these slingbacks appear to just be a lovely pair of evening shoes. But there’s a twist of course!

When you look at the shoe from the front, you realize the rosette is actually off-set, and I absolutely love that it’s constructed from a zipper! Because these sandals are satin they would look great with a black sheath dress, but I also think they are versatile enough to wear casually with jeans. They are available in black and gray as well, but the red is my favorite.

One of my favorite sites for cheap shoes is Victoria’s Secret. While some of the shoes can tend to look like they were made for strippers, there are some good finds! I think these Colin Stuart booties are super cute! I’m really into gray suede right now! It’s still a nice neutral, but a little more interesting than black.

Nine West Jasley Satin Sandals

I’ve recommended these sandals to several of my girlfriends, who needed inexpensive evening sandals! They are available in red, black and champagne satin. I adore the red and black (of course!) but the champagne is really pretty, and it’s a good wardrobe staple!

Very rarely can I actually justify spending over $1,000 on a single pair of shoes, but a nice exotic shoe is worth it, in my opinion, especially in the case of these stunning Python Loubies. Florence and I have also discussed whether python is age appropriate for the younger crowd. And that’s the beauty of these pumps. Florence, Hilary and I could all wear these pumps, even though we’re all different ages and have different tastes in clothing.

These pumps truly are superb. First of all, the python is gorgeous. It’s a subtle skin and can be treated as a neutral. So don’t be afraid to wear them with your brightly colored clothes. I love the pointed toe of this pump as well. It’s a nice shape, but not too severe. And finally the metallic heel is the pièce de résistance! At first I wasn’t sure about it, but it is what makes these shoes youthful and unique! But they’re not so edgy that you won’t be able to wear them for many years to come!
As for pairing these pumps with clothes, anything goes! As I mentioned before, they are a neutral, so they will look equally good with neutrals and colors. I imagine Florence would pair them with one of her very chic shift dresses. I love jeans and black, so I can see pairing them with dark denim and a pretty black silk blouse or a black business suit for work. And I’m sure Hilary would pair them with something totally unexpected, but definitely young and funky!

Cut-out shoes seem to be a fall must! I usually don't care much for Givenchy shoes (besides the fabulous gladiators that we have seen everywhere!), but I have to admit that these shoes are just beautiful! I like their sleek look and their color. And the stiching detail adds a lot of elegance to these timeless shoes.

I would pair them with a structured dress or just my favorite pair of jeans.

Be still my heart! I am in love with these ridiculously pretty and elegant sandals from Christian Louboutin. The nude satin is so pretty, and it’s my favorite shade of nude—that creamy, yummy pink-toned nude. And the touch of metallic on the platform is an unexpected touch. Um….can you tell how much I adore these shoes??!!

I can imagine wearing these shoes in so many different ways…from a ballroom gown to a creamy winter-white pant suit. I also love that they feature a platform. So many evening shoes are paper thin and so miserable to wear. These slingbacks are also available in black satin, and sadly for my bank account, I want them both!
