The Latest from Japan: Tradition meets edgy

My love story with Japan started a couple of years ago, when I was on a business trip with my husband. Truth be told, I loved Japan so much that I learned the language (I am not fluent, but I speak enough to make my way around.)

We happened to be there during the month of April cherry blossom season and to see Tokyo and Kyoto turning pink due to the many Cherry trees blossoming was quite a fabulous experience. I loved the Myako odori the Geisha  and maiko dance in Gion, which is one of the most memorable experiences once can have in Japan.

What I love about Japan is that they can go from super traditional to extremely edgy in the blink of an eye. The contrast can happen from from one street to another. You can walk down Omotesando (that is also called the Japanese Champs Elysee due to the magnificent luxury stores). Then a block away you find yourself in Harajuku, a different world especially on the weekend. It is the center of Japan's most extreme teenage cultures and fashion styles.

Like these shoes that my husband's Japanese PR sent me.

Can you imagine walking in these shoes???

 Can it get any worse?

Now repeat after me: WTF???

I don't think that even Ru Paul would dare to wear these shoes!

Anyway to me, that's the beauty of Japan and that's why Tokyo is one of the most diverse and interesting cities in the world!
